MegaBox and HKFYG Jointly Organise “Youth Entrepreneurship Journey”

The “Youth Entrepreneurship Journey” programme (programme), jointly organised by MegaBox and The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG), has created new opportunities for local youth wishing to start their own businesses. Launched in response to the Hong Kong Housing Authority’s “Well Being · Start-Up 2.0” initiative, the programme aims to support young people aged 18-35 in realising their entrepreneurial dreams through practical business training courses, guidance from professional trainers and a real-life platform for testing their business plans.

The opening ceremony of the programme was held today at MegaBox, Enterprise Square Five in Kowloon Bay. The event was officiated by Miss Charmaine Lee Pui Sze, Permanent Secretary for Housing/Director of Housing of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. She was joined by Ms Michelle Lam, Senior Director of Sustainability and Communications of Kerry Properties Limited, Mr Victor Ng, Senior Director of MegaBox Development Company Limited and Ms Hsu Siu-man, Executive Director of the HKFYG . They announced and commended the seven winning teams from the programme’s series 1 for their hard work over the past three months, recognising their business acumen, inventive mindset and presentation skills, which helped them stand out from the competition.

The programme drew an enthusiastic response when introduced in May 2025, with over 25 start-up teams participating. Their projects spanned diverse areas, ranging from local culture to social innovation, green living, and lifestyle design. All teams attended a series of practical courses on business thinking, marketing, operational management, public speaking and other essential skills to enhance their business acumen. After completing the courses, they submitted their business plans and video presentations and underwent interviews.

For three months, from 2 August until October, the seven winning teams will gain hands-on experience by operating mobile start-up booths provided with the compliments of MegaBox on its ninth floor, every Saturday, Sunday, and public holiday. During this trial period, the teams will interact directly with customers, gauge market response, and improve their products and services. Outstanding teams will have the opportunity to operate a pop-up store or retail shop for a trial period of up to 12 months, making their entrepreneurial dreams a reality.

Miss Charmaine Lee Pui Sze, Permanent Secretary for Housing/Director of Housing of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, said, “To encourage and support young people in pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams, the Hong Kong Housing Authority (HA) has launched the “Well Being · Start-Up” programme, which offers shop premises in shopping centres under the HA for them to trial their business plans rent-free.  To extend the vision of the programme, the HA has launched the “Well Being · Start-Up 2.0” programme and invited the private sector to join in supporting young entrepreneurs, and to leverage the vitality and innovative ideas of young people to provide a more diverse choice of products and shopping experience for the community. The ‘Youth Entrepreneurship Journey’ programme breaks away from the traditional work mode and create diverse development pathways for young people with training courses on entrepreneurial and business operations.  I am sure the participating young people will benefit from the programme immensely.”

Mr Victor Ng, Senior Director of MegaBox Development Company Limited, said, “MegaBox has been actively striving to collaborate with different new brands and start-ups. We not only hope to support young entrepreneurs with potential, but we also believe that their innovative products and services can inject vitality into our shopping mall and the community, bring new experiences to consumers, and even advance the development of the retail industry.”

Ms Hsu Siu-man, Executive Director of the HKFYG, said, “The HKFYG has been supporting young people in starting and growing their businesses. We are proud to be part of their entrepreneurial journeys as they turn a new page and bring creative ideas to life. We must thank our generous business partner for sponsoring venues, which helps ease the burden on young entrepreneurs. Through the programme, we hope they will build resilience and adaptability, growing into real entrepreneurs.”
