“Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition” Project Exhibition and Final Judging Set for April
Over 250 Local Secondary School Science Teams Pool Their Ingenuity
Innovative Solutions to Tackle “Extreme Weather” — Cast Your Vote for Your Favourite Project
Jointly organised by Education Bureau (EDB), The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) and Hong Kong Science Museum (HKScM), the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2026 is an annual innotech event in the local education sector. The Competition has always been well received and supported by teachers and students alike, with this year’s edition attracting entries from over 250 local secondary school science teams. The Initial Judging cum Project Exhibition and the Final Judging cum Award Presentation Ceremony will be held on 12 April and 18 April respectively. The public is cordially invited to participate and witness the emergence of outstanding teams.
Upholding the spirit of “Inspiration from Living · Innovation from Science”, the Competition combines scientific exploration with innovative applications to stimulate creative thinking, inspire technological talent, and encourage young people to pursue careers in science and technology, bringing innovative ideas to society. In response to global concerns over climate change, this year’s Competition has adopted “Extreme Weather” as its annual theme, encouraging students to propose innovative solutions to environmental challenges through scientific research and inventions.
Initial Judging cum Project Exhibition
The Initial Judging will be held on 12 April at InnoCentre, Kowloon Tong, with a Project Exhibition running concurrently. The public is welcome to visit the exhibition to view over 100 student inventions and scientific research projects and cast their vote for their favourite project. The team receiving the most public votes will be awarded the “Visitors’ Favourite Award”.
Final Judging cum Award Presentation Ceremony
The top 20 teams that have advanced to the final round will present their inventions or scientific research findings to a professional judging panel on 18 April, delivering comprehensive presentations as they vie for multiple accolades. The professional judging panel comprises representatives from the organisers and academia, including Prof. Ray CHEUNG Chak-chung, Associate Provost (Digital Learning), City University of Hong Kong, and Prof. Raymond WONG Wai-yeung, Dean of the Faculty of Science, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, among others.
The Competition features a wide range of award categories to recognise and celebrate students’ outstanding performance across diverse areas.
Junior and Senior Divisions: (Type A) Invention and (Type B) Investigation will compete for the Champions, 1st Runners-up and 2nd Runners-up titles; (Type C) Invention Design Proposal and (Type D) Investigation Design Proposal will be awarded First Prizes and Second Prizes, recognising science proposals with potential and feasibility.
Special Awards: Best Newcomer Award, Best Potential Award, Sustainable Development Award, Social Innovation Award, Annual Theme Award, as well as the Visitors’ Favourite Award determined through public voting.
Scientific Wallchart Division: First Prizes, Second Prizes and Annual Theme Award will be presented to encourage students to convey scientific concepts through visual means.
Members of the public can attend the event in person or watch the competition via live stream to experience the exciting atmosphere of the science competition and witness the emergence of a new generation of young scientists.
Since 1998, the Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition has been providing innotech training for local secondary school students, identifying and recognising promising young scientists, and sponsoring them to participate in various overseas competitions and Mainland innovation and technology exchange activities to broaden their international perspectives and enhance their knowledge of science and technology, nurturing future scientists and inventors for Hong Kong.
