The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups
Would you be willing to forego your university graduation ceremony for an incredible volunteering opportunity?

For Jasmine Kong, the answer was a resounding YES! Volunteering isn’t just a hobby for her—it’s an integral part of her life. So when the chance to volunteer at international events came knocking, she couldn’t resist.

Being a passionate volunteer who has been involved in community service since a young age, Jasmine recently made a tough decision to miss her university graduation ceremony to participate in volunteer activities at the prestigious Hangzhou Asian Games and Shanghai Expo.

Jasmine firmly believes that volunteering at large-scale exhibitions and sporting events is a rare and invaluable experience. After graduating from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University with a degree in Tourism and Exhibition Management, Jasmine eagerly seized the opportunity to contribute her skills as a volunteer at these two consecutive events.

Recalling her time at the Shanghai Expo, she fondly remembers engaging in a conversation with a representative from the Thai trade delegation, who shared their country’s passion for Guzheng, a traditional Chinese musical instrument.

Inspired by their conversation, Jasmine went the extra mile and arranged for a Guzheng teacher, who was also a performer at the event, to meet the delegation, fostering communication and collaboration between the two parties. She was both amazed and fulfilled by this incredible outcome.

Jasmine describes this experience as truly eye-opening. Through interactions and shared learnings with people from different backgrounds, she gained a fresh perspective on various matters.

Whether it was helping foreign athletes purchase sports tickets or engaging in career discussions with local staff, volunteering provided Jasmine with a unique lens through which to view life. It unveiled a world of endless possibilities beyond her routine life in Hong Kong.

At the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, we couldn’t be prouder to have remarkable individuals like Jasmine, who embody our organisation’s mission and vision. Together, let’s champion a vibrant volunteering culture where young people can make a meaningful impact. Join us in creating a better future!
