To be an able and effective leader, one must have the communication skills to be able to not only deliver a message concisely and effectively, but also be able to dialogue and negotiate with others. On the other hand, English is an international language, and fluency in it is one of the keys to success in the world today. Young people who strive to compete and excel in the global arena must learn how to communicate in English with confidence. As their fluency improves, opportunities will also widen.
In view of this, The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) is organising 「The Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups English Public Speaking Contest」. As part of 「Speaking Studio」 under the HSBC Future Skills Development Project, the Contest aims to nurture Hong Kong’s young people by enhancing the public skills of the new generation and to foster and build the self-confidence of participating individuals.
Since its launch in 2004, the Contest has been widely supported by over 400 secondary schools in Hong Kong and the accumulated number of participants has reached 27,712. In 2019, the Contest received 1,818 applications from 143 secondary schools.
